This PhD course is on sociological theory and methods in humanistic research with a particular focus on Pierre Bourdieu and Michel Foucault.

Sociological methods and theories in humanistic research

The participants will gain focused insight into theory and methods for Bourdieu and Foucault; humanistic research based on sociological investigations; how to combine theological and philosophical research with sociological investigations; and training in applying the sociological theory on texts. The course will build on a reading list given to the PhD students before the course. The form will be lectures with discussions as well as workshop sessions.

June 14:

13:00-14:00: Introduction to the course (Lene Kühle)

14:00-17:30 Foucault (Jeremy Carrette) (with a 30-minute coffee break)

June 15:

9:00-12:30: Bourdieu (Jakob Egeris) (with a 30-minute coffee break) 

12:30-13:30: Lunch

13:30- 17:30: Combining theological research with sociological; Applying the sociological theory on texts (Douglas Davies) (with a 30-minute coffee break) 

June 16:

9:00-12.00: Humanistic research and sociological investigations (Lene Kühle and Douglas Davies) (with a 30-minute coffee break)
